Solving Linear Style Equations

What operation would solve for "X" in one step?
(answers should appear as: Add 3, subtract 5,
add Negative 4, Multiply by 3, Multiply by 2/3,
Divide by 6, Divide by 4/5,..
.)
(More than one answer could be correct.
i.e. Subtracting 4 and
Adding Negative 4 are equivalent.)
x + 3 = -8
x - 5 = -10
(1/3) x = -15
5x = -2
-3x = 6
